Renewing Our Commitment To Universal Health Coverage On World Health Day
On World Health Day, Bristol Myers Squibb is renewing our commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) whose mission is to give everyone access to a full range of healthcare services when and where they need them.
BMS, alongside industry and non-industry partners, is part of an ecosystem that is making innovation in medicines count for people across the world. Our shared efforts are helping to build resilient healthcare systems and healthcare capacity, and to improve access to care. The synergies created by cross-industry collaboration, and by industry working with local stakeholders across the world, are helping to deliver healthcare in communities. In particular, our industry is keen to work with governments in lowering barriers to high-quality healthcare and in delivering innovative medicines to more people who need them.
Celebrated annually on April 7th, the theme of this year’s World Health Day is ‘Health For All’. In addition, the WHO will observe its 75th anniversary under the theme 75 years of improving public health.
UHC means that all people have access to a full range of quality health services when and where they need them, without financial hardship. It covers the full spectrum of essential health services across the course of life, from health promotion to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. UHC is among the targets set by the United Nations when it adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
BMS is involved in more than 35 collaborations globally to advance UHC and support progress on the SDGs. See more here.
Here is a recent blog by Manan Shah, Vice President, Global Health Equity and Policy Partnerships at BMS, written for the OECD Forum Network, where he outlines BMS’ commitment to work in collaboration for UHC.
